ALSTOM started out in France in 1823. As a global leader in power and transport, ALSTOM today designs, builds and services technologically advanced products and systems for the world´s energy (power plants) and transport (trains, ships) infrastructure. Sales were around 14,2 billion Euros in 2006/07. ALSTOM employs 65,000 people in 70 countries world-wide.
ALSTOM Transport
With a turnover of 5,3 million Euros in the last financial year (2006/2007) and 25,000 employees in 60 countries, ALSTOM Transport is one of the leading suppliers of rail transport solutions world-wide.
ALSTOM Transport is represented by two companies in Germany: ALSTOM LHB GmbH in Salzgitter and ALSTOM Lokomotiven Service GmbH in Stendal, a joint venture with Deutsche Bahn AG. Together, the two sites earn a yearly turnover of around 597 million Euros – and continue to grow. The secret of this success is the staff: approximately 2,500 highly qualified and motivated employees, among them 110 apprentices.
A new way of traveling
ALSTOM Transport gives traveling in Sweden a new flavour. With ALSTOM´s new trains in the regions around the lake Mälaren and Stockholm, journeys become faster, modern, and more comfortable. New technique improves the opportunities to maintain the trains. ALSTOM develops products and service in co-operation with its customers in order to take the traffic´s particular conditions and requirements into consideration.
The most recent product in Sweden is the Coradia LIREX that Skånetrafiken has ordered from ALSTOM. It is adjusted to the Nordic climate and has its equipment on the roof to ease its maintenance. It has a low floor through the whole train, which increases the accessibility for all the passengers. Altogether, 49 new trains will be delivered between 2009 and 2011 to operate in Skåne.
Furthermore, 71 new commuter trains, SL´s X60, will come into traffic in 2005. They are specially constructed for the conditions in Stockholm, with low entries, wide doors, and fast acceleration as well as retardation.In total157 Coradia LIREX were sold within Europe. In autumn the Deutsche Bahn ordered 80 of them that have to be delivered from 2008.
